WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Know What’s Changed – with NEW Server Configuration Monitor

Change management in IT is critical. But, even with a good change management process, changes are too often not correctly tracked, if at all. The configuration of your servers and applications is a key factor in their performance, availability, and security. Many incidents can be tracked back to an authorized (and sometimes unauthorized) configuration change, whether to a system file, configuration file, or Windows® Registry entry. Join SolarWinds VP of product management Brandon Shopp to discover how the new SolarWinds® Server Configuration Monitor is designed to help you.

Email alerts to multiple recipients fail with the error: An invalid character was found in the mail header: ','

Updated March 11th, 2016

Issue:

After an NPM upgrade, alerts addressed to multiple recipients fail with the following error in the Event log:

An invalid character was found in the mail header: ','.

Cause:

Use of comma separator (,) to delimit multiple email recipients may be the cause of the issue.

Workaround:

Use semicolons in such cases instead of comma separators:

  1. Click Start > All Programs > Solarwinds Orion > Alerting, Reporting, and Mapping > Advanced Alert Manager.
  2. Click Configure an Alert > Trigger Actions > Add a Email/Page Action.
  3. In the To: and CC: fields, replace the commas with semicolons to separate multiple recipients.
  4. Verify if the mail alerts are received by the recipients.
