Editing or adding an alert does not populate the drop down list for nodes and properties

Updated August 31, 2016

Overview

You may experience intermittent issues where you are not able to see list of nodes/interfaces while adding / editing an alert via Advanced Alert Manager in the Orion Web Console. On the Select Objects page, the Nodes and their associated properties are not populated.

Environment

NPM 12

Cause

This is usually caused by high polling frequency for certain elements (ex:Hardware health information for interfaces), which the Orion DB is unable to handle and resulting in DB connection timeout.

Resolution

  1. Verify the hardware health polling interval which may have been set to too lowv(for example: 1 min default is 9 minutes for interfaces) and polled via SNMP.
  2. Verify the number of interfaces being polled and make an estimate.
  3. Verify if there are any DB connection timeouts occurring in Windows Event viewer, and polling jobs completed or not once confirmed it is.
  4. Set the Hardware health polling frequency to default values or set between 5-9 minutes.
