WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Know What’s Changed – with NEW Server Configuration Monitor

Change management in IT is critical. But, even with a good change management process, changes are too often not correctly tracked, if at all. The configuration of your servers and applications is a key factor in their performance, availability, and security. Many incidents can be tracked back to an authorized (and sometimes unauthorized) configuration change, whether to a system file, configuration file, or Windows® Registry entry. Join SolarWinds VP of product management Brandon Shopp to discover how the new SolarWinds® Server Configuration Monitor is designed to help you.

Overview

This article describes the issue with ESXi Host when it displays 100% memory utilization.

Environment

All versions of NPM

Cause

This issue occurs when the information provided by device via SNMP is incorrect.

For example:

Total Memory is got from this OID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.6876.3.2.1.0

Used Memory From Each Process is got from 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.5.1.1.2.<index>

Total Used Memory is the sum of all the esults for 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.5.1.1.2.index

% Utilization = Total Used Memory / Total Memory * 100

In this instance, Total Used Memory is approximately equal to Total Memory making the result of 100% in Orion is correct. The issue is that the values from the device are incorrect

Resolution

You need to poll the ESXi host via VmWare API.
