Overview

The following error is found in the ActionsExecution.log file when testing a failed SMTP server test or e-mail:

ERROR SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Actions.Impl.Email.EmailMethodInvoker - Test for SMTP server (outlook.office365.com:25, SSL disabled, Authentication enabled) failed

System.Net.Mail.SmtpException: The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was: 5.7.57 SMTP; Client was not authenticated to send anonymous mail during MAIL FROM
   at System.Net.Mail.MailCommand.CheckResponse(SmtpStatusCode statusCode, String response)
   at System.Net.Mail.MailCommand.Send(SmtpConnection conn, Byte[] command, MailAddress from, Boolean allowUnicode)
   at System.Net.Mail.SmtpTransport.SendMail(MailAddress sender, MailAddressCollection recipients, String deliveryNotify, Boolean allowUnicode, SmtpFailedRecipientException& exception)
   at System.Net.Mail.SmtpClient.Send(MailMessage message)

Cause 

The SMTP server requires authentication and the user has provided incorrect credentials or credentials are missing.

Resolution

Verify that the SMTP credentials are correct in the following two places: 

 

Note: SMTP Authentication Password should not contain special character.
