Overview

 

The following Map Resource error appears on the Web Console:

] ERROR MapService - Unexpected error. System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:\Windows\TEMP\SolarWinds\NetworkAtlas\Orion\Orion-{XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXX}Map Name' is denied.    at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)

 

Also may look like this in Atlas WARNs:

WARN  MapService - (null)  File could not be found.
System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not find file 

 

Or

 

ERROR MapService -- Access to Orion.MapStudioFiles.GetMapStyle verb denied

Environment

All NPM versions

Cause 

 

This is caused by permissions denied to C:\Windows\TEMP and all other important Orion directories:

Resolution

  1. Log in to your SolarWinds Web server as a local administrator. **Note If Additional Web Server Licensing is used check to see if the issue resides only on the Primary server or the Additional web server and perform these steps accordingly to that said server only.
  2. Run OrionPermissionChecker.exe in %\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\
  3. Locate the directories with FAILED result and apply full File and Folder Permissions manually. 

    ***Even if no permissions failed go through the following steps during a maintenance window:
     
  4. Open up services.msc (Start>Run>Services.msc)
  5. Stop 'World Wide Web Publishing Service'
  6. Open Windows Explorer/File Explorer on same server (Start>File Explorer)
  7. Navigate to 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root'
  8. Delete folder underneath 'C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root'
  9. Open up services.msc (Start>Run>Services.msc)
  10. Start 'World Wide Web Publishing Service'
  11. Run Configuration Wizard (Start > Configuration Wizard)
  12. Check Website and Services
  13. Click Next till Finished (Don't skip Website Optimization)
