Overview

The Syslog Service is not starting on a Solarwinds server.

Environment

Orion 2013 and later

Cause

This is due to a port conflict with another Syslog Service such as Kiwi.

Resolution

  • Disable the other Service or Application, per steps of that product, that is using the port (UDP 514).
  • If you would rather keep using that Service or Application and not use Orion's Syslog service, then disable the automatic start of the service using Windows Service Manager.
