Overview

The following error message appears when running the Configuration Wizard after upgrading/migrating an Orion application 

ERROR ConfigurationProgressScene - Exception while configuring Orion Core Services component Orion Information Service plugin . System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException : Access is denied.

Environment

NPM 11 and later

Cause 

The account that is being used to run the Configuration Wizard does not have access to the C:\Users\Your_User_Account\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA” folder.

To check:

  1. Click Start > Run > type %AppData%.

  2. Click Enter to see the AppData folder for the current user you are logged in . 
  3. C:\Users\Your_User_Account\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA
  4. Check the Crypto folder security.

Resolution

  1. Grant the servername\authenticated user FULL rights to Crypto folder as above and all sub directories. 
  2. Rerun the Configuration wizard and it should complete with no errors.


Best Resolution: 

  1. Logon to the Orion with LOCAL ADMINISTRATOR ACCOUNT on the Orion server (Do not use domain admin account).
  2. Make sure that the account you are using has full rights to the "Crypto" folder and sub directories.
    C:\Users\Your_User_Account\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA
  3. Rerun Configuration Wizard.
