Display accurate downtime information in Alert Reset Actions

Updated June 29, 2017

This article discusses how to display accurate downtime information in Alert Email Reset Actions for a Node Down alert when using the parameter Alert must exist for X amount of minutes before the alert should trigger.

When this parameter is used, the alert resets after the node comes back up. The time that the alert must exist before executing is not included in the variable: ${N=Alerting;M=DownTime}.

  • Orion Platform 2015.1.3 and later
  • SAM 6.2.3  and later
  • NPM 11.5.3 and later

Note: This procedure only works for Node Down alerts and will need to be edited when alerting on interfaces, application, components, and so on.

Use the following query within the message body of your Email Reset Action for the Node Down alert:

RESET: ${N=SwisEntity;M=Caption} has been down for ${SQL:select distinct datediff(minute,e.eventtime,getdate()) from events e where e.networknode = ${N=SwisEntity;M=NodeID}} minutes

This pulls information from the time when the node was down to the time the alert was reset.
