Overview

This article describes the issue when comparing the Orion Interface traffic Charts and when using an external tool, they get unexpected results.

Environment

NPM 10.6 and later

Cause

This issue occurs when you use 32 bit counters, there is frequent counter roll-overs which impact accuracy of the charts depending on the roll-over method selected in the Orion settings.

Resolution

  • Increasing the polling interval may improve the chart accuracy with the disadvantage of the additional polling load on the server.
  • Changing the Counters to use 64 bit in the Edit node screen will reduce the frequency of the counter roll-over and provide a more accurate output.
