Overview

This article explains what devices you can monitor with SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM).

Environment

All NPM Versions

Detail

With NPM, you can monitor devices that respond to ICMP, SNMP, WMI, API, or send Syslog messages.

  • If your device responds to ICMP, you can see the device status (Up/Down) in the Orion Web Console
  • If your device responds to SNMP, you can see statistics covered by OIDs that NPM can poll from the device.

To find out what information (OIDs) a device sends, contact the device vendor.

To poll an OID that is not supported out-of-the-box, you can create a custom monitor to display the information in the Orion Web Console.
