Dependency Alerts not working

Overview

Dependency Alerts are not working as expected and throw more alerts then expected.

Environment

NPM 10.7 upwards

Solution

It is possible the dependencies are misconfigured or some elements have multiple dependencies. Confirm the dependencies in place are set as required. Having a node with multiple parents through multiple dependencies would require all affected parents to be down for the child to be marked as unreachable.

If the issue is the alerts are triggering slightly before the nodes become unreachable as a result of the dependency adjusting the intervals on each may help.

Set the status polling interval on the parent node to 30 seconds and the child objects should have the default polling time of 120 seconds for status. Through this setting NPM is more likely to poll the the parent as down before the child nodes are polled as down and the suppression will be in place for the alerts on the child objects.
