Delays when adding a node page when switching between polling methods

Adding a node takes a long time with a delay of about 15 seconds in the Web Console. This happens when switching between polling methods like from Status Only: ICMP to Most Devices: SNMP and ICMP.


  • All NPM versions
  • All SAM versions
  • Can affect Additional Web Servers


There is an issue with the DNS server specified on the Primary Polling Engine or the Additional Web Server.

When switching between polling methods, Orion will attempt to resolve the DNS of the specified IP address/hostname multiple times.

If the DNS servers take a long time to respond with a result or a long time to respond with no result, then this will cause the Add Node Page to hang whilst loading the options.


To resolve this, the root issues need to be resolved on the DNS Server.


To see what DNS Servers are being used do the following:

  1. Remote Desktop to the Primary Polling Engine/Additional Web Server.
  2. Run > ncpa.cpl.
  3. Right-click the Default NIC > Properties.
  4. Check the properties of Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
