Overview

This article provides steps to integrate the Customer Portal with the Orion Web Console using a proxy.

All Orion Core platforms

Steps

Check the following first:

api.solarwinds.com is alive!

  • Check if you are using any proxy. Open a web browser, for example Internet Explorer > Internet Options > Tab Connections > LAN Settings. If a configured proxy address is listed, a proxy is in use. Orion must be configured to use that proxy.

 

1. Create a backup of  C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SolarWinds.Orion.Core.BusinessLayer.dll.config and save in a different  location. 

2. Edit C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SolarWinds.Orion.Core.BusinessLayer.dll.config and add the following lines within</configSections> and <appsettings>  tags at the top of the file:

<system.net> <!--Specifies whether a web proxy is used. The default value is true.-->
    <defaultProxy enabled="true">
        <proxy proxyaddress="http://youraddressproxy:8080" bypassonlocal="true" />
    </defaultProxy>
</system.net>

Example:

  </configSections>
   <system.net>
    <defaultProxy enabled="true">
      <proxy proxyaddress="http://yourproxyaddress:8080" bypassonlocal="true" />
    </defaultProxy>
    </system.net>
  <appSettings>

3. Replace http://youraddressproxy:8080 with the details of the the proxy server in the Local Area Network (LAN) Settings dialog. 

4.  Restart SolarWinds Orion Module Engine service (BusinessLayer). 

 

If the above steps do not work:

Do the following setting in c:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SolarWinds.Orion.Core.BusinessLayer.dll.config after restarting the SolarWinds Orion Module Engine service (BusinessLayer):

<system.net>
    <defaultProxy enabled="true">
        <proxy usesystemdefault="true" bypassonlocal="true" />
    </defaultProxy>
</system.net>

Notes:

  • Customer Portal Integration uses port 443
  • Going to the Website 74.115.12.123 
  • application data is allowed and TLS v1, 3 way handshake
