Custom map icons do not display in the web console

Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when created custom icons do not appear correctly in the web console, but do on Network Atlas.

Cause

If the graphics file is missing in the MapsWeb directory, the custom icon will display as a square box at Orion web console.

Environment

  • All NPM versions
  • All Network Atlas  versions

Resolution

You need to ensure that they are included in the NetObjects directory on your NPM server.

 

To copy custom icons into the NetObjects directory on your NPM server:

  1. Log on to your NPM server as an administrator.
  2. Copy your custom icons to the following default directory on your NPM server:
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Network Atlas\Maps\NetObjects\Icons.
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Network Atlas\MapsWeb\NetObjects\Icons
  1. Start Orion Network Atlas on the Orion server to finalize the additional icons.

After copying the graphics files to their location, you can assign them as an icon as you would any other graphic image.
To assign a custom icon to an object:

  1.  Right-click the object on the map, and then click Select Graphic.
  2.  Select User Graphics in the left pane.
  3.  Select your desired graphic image, and then click OK.
