Custom Object resource shows X instead of data

Table of contents

When creating custom object charts under a view for a large amount of objects, the resource will load with a X for the data image as show below. If the resource objects are reduced in number it will display the data correctly.

This is a known issue under CUST-7758

  • Orion specific, no particular module.

  1. On the NPM server, open IIS.
  2. Click on the site SolarWinds NetPerfMon.
  3. Open Request Filtering for that site.
  4. Click on Edit Feature Settings, on the far right under Actions.
  5. Set Maximum URL length (Bytes) to 444096.
  6. Set Maximum query string (Bytes) to 44048.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Stop all services.
  9. Go to the drive that contains the directory inetpub\Solarwinds.
  10. Open the file web.config in a text editor.
  11. Locate this line:

<httpRuntime requestValidationMode="2.0" />

  1. Change this line to:

<httpRuntime requestValidationMode="2.0" maxQueryStringLength="2097151" maxUrlLength="2097151" maxRequestLength="2097151" />

The problem occurs because the objects in the resource are all listed out in the URL during query. This makes the URL longer than the maximum URL length currently permitted. Increasing this, as described above, allows it to continue.

Customer object resource, no data
