Create complex alert conditions

Overview

This article provides information on how to create complex alert conditions so that an alert will not trigger until an X amount of nodes have matched the Trigger Condition which you have created. 

For this example, you will need to create a custom property and apply to the nodes which you would like to include in the alert. This will give us a unique reference point which we can use in order to create the scope of our Alert.

Environment

  • NPM version 11.5 and later
  • Orion Core 2015 and later
  • SAM version 6.0 and later

Steps

For this example, the custom property created is called ComplexAlertDemo and is applied to 3 or 4 nodes. 

To create the complex alert to trigger only once an X amount of device match the trigger condition, we must do the following:

 

  1. Log into the Web Console with an account with alert privileges.
  2. Click Settings > Manage Alerts > Add New Alert.
  3. Give the alert a name and description and confirm that it is set to enabled. Click Next.
  4. Under the Trigger Condition tab is where we are going to set the Alert Condition:
  5. Once the alert is configured, enable the "Complex Condition" option. This needs to be configured so that the alert will not trigger until 3 or more devices are exceeding the CPU threshold defined in the alert. 
  6. Expand the Advanced Option at the bottom of the page.
  7. Select the box and expand to "Enable Complex Conditions".
  8. A new field will appear ehere you can enter the minimum number of devices which matches the trigger condition before the trigger action is executed.
  9. You can follow the rest of the Alert Creation Wizard as the steps from there are the same as creating any standard alert.
