Create an iControl account for F5 monitoring

Table of contents

Overview

NPM uses iControl to poll health monitors for Network Insight for F5 BIG-IP load balancers. You can use the default F5 Administrator account for this monitoring. If that is not an option, create a new iControl account.

The iControl account you are using in NPM must be a local account directly on the F5 device. You cannot use Active Directory or TACACS accounts.

Environment

  • NPM 12.0 and later

Steps

  1. Log in to your F5 device and navigate to System > Users > User list > New user.
  2. In the Role drop-down, select Administrator.
  3. Finish creating the user.

For more information about user rights, read the section "About iControl and RBAC for user accounts" in the User Guide for the iControl rest interface or search for "icontrol permissions" at https://devcentral.f5.com  (© 2013 VMware, Inc., available at http://www.vmware.com/, obtained on May 4, 2016.)
