Create a new user with a customized view and menu bar in NPM

Overview

This article describes how to restrict what users can view on their Web Console and where they can navigate from their menu bar.

Steps

Create a new user 

  1. Log in to the Orion Web Console with an admin account.
  2. Go to Settings > Manage Accounts > click Add New Account.
  3. Select Orion individual account, and click Next.
  4. Choose a name for this new account, and set a password.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Scroll down to Account Limitations and click Add Limitation.
  7. Add the desired limitations. For example, add a Hardware Manufacturer limitation, and choose all of the network device vendors from the list provided. This limits the account to viewing only those types of devices.
  8. Under Default Menu Bar and Views, change the Home Tab Menu Bar to your newly created Menu Bar. 
  9. Change the Home Page View, and the Default Summary View to your new View as shown in the screen shown below:

  10. If you prefer to assign an NCM Role, click Network Configuration Manager Settings.
  11. Choose a desired role for this account and click Submit. For example, choose WebViewer Role if you want to provide Read Only access to the web console. 
  12. Log out of your Orion Web Console, and log back in using this newly created account to review the customized view.

Create customized menu bars 

  1. Log in to the Orion Web Console using the admin account.
  2. Go to Settings > Customize Menu Bars.
  3. Click New Menu Bar and name the new menu bar.
  4. Drag and drop the required items from the Available Items to the Selected Items:

  5. Click Submit. 

Create Customized Views

  1. Log in to the Orion Web Console using the admin account.
  2. Go to Settings > Add New View.
  3. Enter the name of this new view in Name of New View and select the Type of View.
  4. Click Submit. By default, you will see two columns Resources in Column 1 and Resources in Column 2: kb-5021-3-new view.jpg
  5. To add more resources, click + next to one of these columns to choose resources to add.
  6. Once complete, click Done.
