Configuration wizard fails to communicate with SWIS service

Overview

The configuration wizard fails and returns the following error message after installing NPM 12:

Website configuration failed:

Connection to SolarWinds Information Service did not succeed.

Last error: The socket connection was aborted. This could be caused by an error processing your message or  a receive timeout being exceeded by the remote host, or an underlying network source issue. Local timeout socket was '00:00:00:0000000'.

 

A similar error message is also found in the log:

ErrorSite: mscorlib.Task.ThrowIfExceptional
ErrorType: System.AggregateException

Message: The socket connection was aborted. This could be caused by an error processing your message or a receive timeout being exceeded by the remote host, or an underlying network resource issue. Local socket timeout was '00:01:00'.
Type: System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException

Environment

  • NPM 12
  • NCM 7.5

Cause 

This issue is caused when TLS 1.2 was enabled and TLS 1.1 and 1.0 were disabled on Windows Server 2012.

Resolution

Perform the steps in the Unable to start Module Engine due to Information Service not working (TLS 1.0 issue) article to resolve the issue.
