Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the following error when running the Configuration Wizard:

Service was unable to open new database connection when requested. ArgumentException:Keyword not supported:'provider'.

 

This error is also seen in the configuration wizard logs.

Environment

All NPM versions

 

Cause 

The issue is caused when Named Pipes are disabled for the SQL server instance the Orion database lies on. This concern is only when the SQL server is remote.

Resolution

  1. Enable Named Pipes on the SQL server. 
    See https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...=sql.110).aspx  to get procedure. 
  2. Run the configuration wizard on the Orion Server and reconnect to SQL.

a. Click Start > All Programs > Solarwinds Orion > Configuration and Auto Discovery > Configuration Wizard.
b. Click Start > Configuration Wizard (Server 2012).
