Updated November 11, 2016

Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the issue when polling Additional Polling Engine (APE).

The following error occurs when running the Configuration Wizard:

Exception while configuring plugin Orion Core Services component Orion Job Engine Plugin. Unable to determine Job Engine location

Environment

NPM version 12.x

Cause

Job Engine version 1 was not installed correctly. It is missing from Add/Remove Program.

Resolution

Note: Confirm from Add/Remove Programs the number of copies of Job Engine.

1. Remove and re-install Job Engine version 1 and 2 from C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Installer.

2. If the same error occurs, check the following Job Engine folders if Job Engine is installed correctly:

  • C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\JobEngine\Data
  • C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\JobEngine.v2\Data

3. If it is not installed correctly, install Job Engine version 1 and 2 using the following command with elevated permissions:

a. Click Start > Run.

b. Open CMD.

d. Press Shift + Enter to open a command prompt as an administrator.

e. Enter the full path to the MSI. The path must be inside quotes if it has any spaces.

For example: CD \ProgramData\Solarwinds\Installers>msiexec /i Jobengine.msi

Configuration Wizard and polling should run succesfully.
