Overview

This article describes the steps to change the IP address your NPM server.  This will also help you if after changing the server name and IP address, the web console does not work.

Environment

  • NPM version 12 and earlier

Steps

  1. Using an account with administrative privileges, log on to your SolarWinds server.
  2. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
  3. Click Shutdown Everything.
Note: Do not close Orion Service Manager at this time.
  4. Change the IP address of your SolarWinds server.
  5. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Configuration and Auto-Discovery > Configuration Wizard.
  6. Check Services, Database, and Website, and then complete the Configuration Wizard, providing the new IP address of your SolarWinds server, when prompted. For more information, see "Completing the Orion Configuration Wizard" in the SolarWinds Orion NPM Administrator Guide.
  7. On your SQL Server, open SQL Server Management Studio (click Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server > SQL Server Management Studio).
  8. Using an account with the sysadmin role, log in to the SQL Server instance hosting your SolarWinds database.
  9. Click + to expand Databases > YourSolarWindsDatabase > Tables.
  10. Right-click the AllEngines table, and then click Select Top 1000 Rows.

Note: In some versions, the table name is "Engines".

Note: Do not close Orion Service Manager at this time.

Note the EngineID assigned to the SolarWinds server with the changed IP address.

If you have more than 200 alerts defined for objects monitored by the polling engine installed on the updated server, use the New Query Editor (right-click the Alerts table and then click Script Table as > UPDATE To > New Query Editor Window) to create a query that updates the EngineID for these alerts, as required.

If you have fewer than 200 alerts defined for objects monitored by the polling engine installed on the updated server:

  1. Right-click the Alerts table.
  2. Click Edit Top 200 Rows.
  3. Edit the EngineID, as required.

Note: If you need to change the IP for multiple servers the best approach would be the following steps:

1. Stop All services on all servers for the environment.

2. Change IP's for all servers.

3. Run the Configuration Wizard for each server starting with the Primary first.

Running the configuration Wizard will automatically update Orion with the new ip address and update tables
