Change the IP address of your NPM server

Overview

This article describes the steps to change the IP address your NPM server.  This will also help you if after changing the server name and IP address, the web console does not work.

Environment

  • All NPM Version

Steps

  1. Using an account with administrative privileges, log on to your SolarWinds server.
  2. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
  3. Click "Shutdown Everything".
    Note: Do not close Orion Service Manager at this time.
  4. Change the IP address of your SolarWinds server.
  5. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Configuration and Auto-Discovery > Configuration Wizard.
  6. Check Services, Database, and Website, and then complete the Configuration Wizard, providing the new IP address of your SolarWinds server, when prompted.

  7. On your SQL Server, open SQL Server Management Studio (click Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server > SQL Server Management Studio).
  8. Using an account with the sysadmin role, log in to the SQL Server instance hosting your SolarWinds database.
  9. Click + to expand Databases > %YourSolarWindsDatabase% > Tables.
  10. Right-click the [AllEngines] (NPM 11.5.x) or [Engines] (NPM 11.0.x and NPM 12.x +) table, and then click Select Top 1000 Rows.
  11. Take note of the [EngineID] for the SolarWinds server with the IP address you just changed
  12.  
    1. If you have more than 200 alerts defined for objects monitored by the polling engine installed on the updated server, you may use the New Query Editor
      1. right-click the [Alerts] table
      2. click Script Table as > UPDATE To > New Query Editor Window) to create a query that updates the [EngineID] for these alerts, as required. (If the [EngineID] is 0 you can leave it as is)
    2. If you have fewer than 200 alerts defined for objects monitored by the polling engine installed on the updated         server:
      1. Right-click the [Alerts] table.
      2. Click Edit Top 200 Rows.
      3. Edit the [EngineID], as required. (If the [EngineID] is 0 you can leave it as is)
  13. In the Orion Service Manager click "Start Everything"

 

Note: If you need to change the IP address for multiple Solarwinds servers use the following steps:

 

  1. "Shutdown Everything" on all Solarwinds servers. (Steps 1-3)
  2. Change the IP Addresses for all Solarwinds servers. (Step 4)
  3. Run the Configuration Wizard for each server starting with the Primary first. (Step 5, 6)
  4. Update the [Alerts] table if necessary. (Step 7-12)

 

Running the Configuration Wizard will automatically update Orion with the new ip address and update tables
