The following error appears when upgrading NPM from 10.6 to 11.0.1:

An unexpected exception occurred during the installation / Microsoft Deployment.WindowsInstallerException.

Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.

.net is damaged or is corrupted.


  1. Run a Microsoft tool to uninstall/Reinstall .net (basically repaired .net).
  2. The update should work once .net is fixed.
