Cannot delete unmanaged nodes

Updated

Overview

This article shows how to resolve issues with nodes that cannot be deleted after unmanaging it.

There are cases where Unmanage nodes was use due to polling issues.

Additional information to check:

  • Node can be searched in Search Node Resource but not in Manage Nodes. Thus, you are unable to delete it.
  • There is an error - Rediscover failed when you click Rediscover after Re-managing Node.

Environment

NPM 11.5.3

Resolution

Check OrionWeb.log for the error below:

Checked OrionWeb.log
2016-07-26 13:38:23,519 [5] ERROR SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Common.CoreBusinessLayerProxy - Can not get host from the database
2016-07-26 13:38:23,519 [5] ERROR SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Common.CoreBusinessLayerProxy - Can not get port from the database
2016-07-26 13:38:23,519 [5] ERROR NodeManagement - Error in Rediscover function.
System.ArgumentException: host is empty
Parameter name: host
at SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Common.CoreBusinessLayerProxy..ctor(String host, String port, Binding binding, HandleBusinessLayerException exceptionDelegate)

  1. Go to Node Details page and click on Edit Node. Notice that the node is not assigned to a polling engine.
  2. Launch Database Manager and add the Solarwinds database.
  3. Compare the EngineID of the node with the EngineID in AllEngines table.
  4. Modify the EngineID of the node to match the EngineID of the Orion Server.
  5. Go back to the Orion Web Console and click Rediscover.
