When you try to install NPM 12 it results in an error: 

An unexpected exception occurred during installation


Details are as follows:

Most likely with A/V and permissions to the directory.




If the error details state "This installation is forbidden by system policy," the following procedure may correct the issue for installations on Windows 2008:

  1. Click Start > Control Panel.
  2. Click Administrative Tools.
  3. Click Local Security Policy.
  4. In the left pane, click Software Restriction Policies.
  5. If no software restrictions are defined, right-click Software Restriction Policies in the left pane, and then click New Software Restriction Policy.
  6. Click Enforcement.
  7. Select All users except local administrators.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Reboot your SolarWinds server.


If you still have the same issue, try to run the installer with -NoTest switch as mentioned in the following article. 

(Make sure the CMD is running as an Administrator.)
