This article addresses errors that may occur when installing SolarWinds Orion Platform products.

Issue:
An unexpected exception occurred during installation
Resolution:
If the error details state, "This installation is forbidden by system policy," the following procedure may correct the issue for installations on Windows 7.
  1. Click Start > Control Panel.
  2. Click Administrative Tools.
  3. Click Local Security Policy.
  4. In the left pane, click Software Restriction Policies.
  5. If no software restrictions are defined, right-click Software Restriction Policies in the left pane, and then click New Software Restriction Policy.
  6. Click Enforcement.
  7. Select All users except local administrators.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Reboot your SolarWinds server.
Issue:
Files in Use Error
A window with the following message displays during installation:
"The following applications are using files that need to updated by this setup. Close these applications and then click Retry to continue the installation or Exit to end it."
Resolution:
This error may occur during SolarWinds installations on Windows 2012 or Windows 8 desktop. Services that should stop during installation or upgrade are not correctly stopped.

To resolve this issue:
  1. Click Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.
  2. Click Shutdown Everything.
  3. Restart and finish the installation wizard.
