Overview

All Nodes Tress is showing the following error message:

Server Error: Unable to cast object of type ‘System.DBNull’ to type ‘System.String’.

Environment

Cause

There are NULLs to one of the columns of the node in the NodesData table of Orion database.

Resolution

  1. From the Orion server, launch Orion Database Manager (Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features).

  2. From the Orion Database Manager, click on Add Default Server.

  3. Expand SQL server and look for the Orion database.

  4. Expand Orion Database and look for NodesData table.

  5. Right click NodesData Table and select Query Table.

  6. Click on Execute Query

  7. Identify which columns contains the NULL values. List those column name.

For Example: If you see NULL on the columns SysObjectID, Contact, IOSImage, you should update those NULL values to blank. This can be done by running the query below:

Update NodesData set SysObjectID = ('') where SysObjectID is Null
Update NodesData set Contact = ('') where Contact is Null
Update NodesData set IOSImage = ('') where IOSImage is Null
