Overview

The Execute Command Script used to configure a banner on a Cisco device takes a long time.

Environment

  • NCM 6.1 or later

Steps

When using NCM to add or modify a banner, disable prompt detection as this is only one command and the NCM logic will check often for a prompt, causing excessive time for the script to complete.

To work around this, add macros in the script to tell NCM not to check for a prompt, and then turn the prompt detection back on once the banner command is complete.

 

${DisablePromptDetection} will turn this off and ${EnablePromptDetection} will re-enable it.

 

In the command, do the following:

 

conf t

${DisablePromptDetection} 

banner motd ^C

*******

Banner Text here

*******

end

${EnablePromptDetection}

 

This will result in a speedier process.
