SSHD log files created by NCM or SCP/SFTP Server

Table of contents

Updated December 1, 2017

Overview

This article provides information about the SSHD log files (name: sshd_***) which are located in the C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Sshd\ folder.

Environment

  • NCM, all versions
  • Free SCP/SFTP Server

Detail

One of the NCM components and also the free tool SCP/SFTP Server generate log files (session traces) called sshd_*** (the *** is replaced by randomly generated, hexadecimal session identifier). These files are stored in the C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Sshd\ folder. Once the session is terminated the file should be deleted. But if permissions are not correctly applied to this folder, or an external application (such as anti-virus software) locks the file, it might remain and cause file system exhaustion. In any case, these files can be manually deleted to free up space.
