Overview

This article provides information on addressing the following error which can be seen in Real-Time Change Detection / Real-Time Notification log files:

COMException (0x80040213): The transport failed to connect to the server

Environment

All NCM versions

Cause 

The error (exception) is thrown when the SMTP Server within Orion is configured to use authentication while the actual SMTP server does not require authentication.

Resolution

Disable authentication in SMTP configuration:

  1. Login to the Orion Web Console.
  2. Go to Settings > NCM Settings > SMTP Server.
  3. Change Authentication to None.
  4. Click on SUBMIT.
