NCM inventory report not showing Reverse DNS

Updated January 16, 2017

When running the NCM Inventory Report for IP Addresses, Reverse DNS is empty or does not contain any value.

  • NCM 7.4.X
  • NCM 7.5.X

There are two causes to this issue:

  1. The device is not using the standard OIDs to pull this data:
    1. Interfaces

      IP Addresses
Also pings and tests SNMP access to discovered IP Addresses

  2. Inventory is not running on the NCM node in the Inventory Job or the following are not checked, Interfaces and IP Addresses.

  1. Check to confirm if the device is not using the standard OIDs, perform a SNMP walk for the OIDs:
    2. If the device does not support the OID, please create a case for MIB Submission and if the environment has NPM, a Custom Poller can be created to grab the data.
  2. If the devices does respond to the standard OIDs, confirm NCM inventory is running and configured properly.
    1. Check the manual settings under Settings > NCM Settings > Node Inventory for Interfaces and IP Addresses checked.
    2. Check the NCM Inventory job under Configs > Jobs > Update Inventory Job Type for the Inventory Settings.
