NCM backup job failed to back up additional nodes

Overview

The NCM backup job is unable to back up additional nodes and the following error is found in the SolarWinds.Orion.Core.BusinessLayer.LogHelper file:

2016-02-11 12:46:32,105 [Scheduler] WARN  SolarWinds.Orion.Core.BusinessLayer.LogHelper - Error deleting file C:\ProgramData\Application Data\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion\NPM.Collector.Jobs_[7404].log - (The process cannot access the file 'C:\ProgramData\Application Data\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion\NPM.Collector.Jobs_[7404].log' because it is being used by another process).
 

Environment

NCM 7.3 and later

Cause 

This can occur when another user is logged in to the system and is using the same file or one of the JobEngineworker processor cached halted the file under usage.

Resolution

  1. Stop all Orion Services.
  2. Manually delete the file mentioned in the logs: C:\ProgramData\Application Data\SolarWinds\Logs\Orion\NPM.Collector.Jobs_[7404].log
  3. Restart all Orion Services.
  4. Rerun the NCM Job.
  5. Verify that the issue has been resolved.
