You might need to uninstall SolarWinds NCM and other Orion products to resolve issues or to move to a new server during a migration.

Before you start

Before you uninstall the product, complete the following tasks.

Back up the existing Orion database.

If the Orion database is on a VM, create a snapshot of the VM.

If you need help with backups, see your database vendor documentation.

If you'd like to use SolarWinds Backup, click here for information.

Remove NCM

  1. Remove product licenses:
    1. In the Orion Web Console, select Settings > All Settings.
    2. Under Details, click License Manager.
    3. In the web-based License Manager, select the product license to remove.

    4. Click Deactivate. This removes the license activation and server assignment.

With the license deactivated, it is parked, or available but unused.

  2. Stop all Orion services:

    1. Log in to the Orion server.

    2. Open the Orion Service Manager. (Click Start > All Programs> SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager.)

    3. Click Shutdown Everything.

  3. Remove NCM and (optionally) other Orion Platform products:

    1. Open the Windows Control Panel, and choose Uninstall or change a program.

    2. Right-click SolarWinds Orion Network Configuration Manager, and choose Uninstall.

    3. If you want to remove your entire Orion installation, right-click each SolarWinds Orion component or product and uninstall it.
If you did not remove all SolarWinds modules, the SolarWinds Configuration wizard opens when the uninstallation is complete.

  4. In the Configuration wizard, select all elements and complete the wizard.

If you uninstalled all SolarWinds modules, the Configuration wizard might attempt to start but hang. If this happens, use the Task Manager to close it.

  5. If you are removing the entire Orion installation, delete or rename all files in the following locations. If you installed to a different drive, use that drive instead of C:\.

If you are removing only NCM, continue with the next step.

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SolarWinds
    • C:\inetpub\SolarWinds
    • C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds
    • C:\ProgramData\SolarWindsAgentInstall
  6. If you are removing only NCM, delete or rename the following files or folders if they are present. If you installed to a different drive, use that drive instead of C:\.

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM.AlertActions8

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SolarWinds.NCM.RTNForwarder

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\SolarWinds.NCM.RTNForwarder.exe.config

    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\Modules\NCM

  7. Remove NCM or Orion-related registry keys.

These steps affect your Registry settings. SolarWinds recommends backing up your Registry before making any changes. For assistance, contact Support.

    1. Open a Command Prompt on the Orion server.

    2. Type regedit, and press Enter.

    3. Expand Hkey_Local_Machine > Software > Wow6432Node.

    4. If you are removing the entire Orion installation, delete the SolarWinds and the folders.

    5. If you are removing only NCM, delete the following folders:

      • Wow6432Node > SolarWinds > Orion > NCM

      • Wow6432Node > SolarWinds.Net > Configuration Management

  8. Clear the .NET cache:

    1. From the Windows menu, open Services.

    2. Stop the World Wide Web Publishing Service.

    3. Go to the following location and delete all files in the \root folder for all versions of .NET:
      C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\<versionNumber>\Temporary ASP.NET Files\root

    4. Restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service

  9. Restart the server.

To reinstall NCM and other Orion products, use the Orion Installer
