Overview

The new or modified Device Template option is not available in the NCM Node details menu. 

Environment

  • NCM versions earlier than 7.2.x

Cause 

This can occur because of the following reasons:

  • The Device Template is not in the appropriate NCM install directory. (needs to be on all Orion polling engines from NCM 7.2.2 -7.3.2)

  • The Device Template does not follow the correct naming convention. 

  • There may be XML errors in the template, missing values, quotations, illegal font for example

Resolution

  1. Verify that the template is in the correct folder.
    • NCM 7.0 and later: x:\\program files\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM\Device Types
    • NCM 5.0-6.1 and NCM 7.0-7.1 (if upgrading from NCM 6.x): x:\\program files\SolarWinds\Confguration Manager\Device Types
  2. Verify that the Device Template file name follows the correct naming convention: 
    Device Type - Systme OID dot configmgmt-commands
    For example, Cisco IOS-1.3.6.1.4.1.9.ConfigMgmt-Commands
  3. Verify the Template name or OID is not duplicated
  4. Examine the content of the template and verify there are no open ended quotations and no bolded or out of place fonts (gnerally would be a "" in a newly added Command Name)

Note: If the template was created or added while the NCM Win32 Application is running, exit and reopen the application to reset the NCM schema.
