NCM 7.6 install fails: Beta upgrades are not supported. Uninstall Orion to continue

Updated February 5, 2017

Overview

Getting an installation message/error stating:

Beta upgrades are not supported. Uninstall Orion to continue when upgrading to or installing NCM v7.6.

Environment

  • NCM 7.6
  • A beta version may or may not be currently installed, but had been installed in the past

Cause

Upgrade will check to see if Beta is installed. Even if a Beta has been uninstalled, a registry entry may still be present indicating it is Beta.

Resolution

  1. Uninstall the Beta:
    1. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\wow6432Node\SolarWinds.Net\Configuration Management
    2. Delete the isBeta Flag if present.
  2. If the Beta has been uninstalled previously, open the registry with regedit.exe
    1. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\wow6432Node\SolarWinds.Net\Configuration Management
    2. Delete the isBeta Flag
  3. Install NCM v7.6
