Overview

This article provides information on how to modify the Cisco Adaptive Security (ASA) template in NCM to issue a command that will display the keys.

Note: By default, when issuing a show running command to ASA, the pre-shared keys will be masked and will show as a series of *** in the downloaded configs.

Environment

All NCM versions

Steps

  1. Create a copy of the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Device Template (give the copy a unique name and an OID that differs from the existing). Set it so it will not be used for Auto Select
  2. Modify the <Command Name="Running" Value="running-config"/> to <Command Name="Running" Value="more system:running-config"/>
  3. Modify the <Command Name="Startup" Value="startup"/> to <Command Name="Startup" Value=" show startup"/>.
  4. Modify the <Command Name="DownloadConfig" Value="show ${ConfigType}"/> to <Command Name="DownloadConfig" Value=" ${ConfigType}"/>.
  5. Save the template.
  6. Edit the Cisco ASA(s) and go to the NCM properties > Communications> use the drop down and then select the Device template you just created.
  7. Save the settings.
  8. Download the running config.

Once complete your Template Commands above should look like this

<Command Name="Startup" Value="show startup"/>

<Command Name="Running" Value="more system:running-config"/>
<Command Name="DownloadConfig" Value="${ConfigType}"/>
