WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Know What’s Changed – with NEW Server Configuration Monitor

Change management in IT is critical. But, even with a good change management process, changes are too often not correctly tracked, if at all. The configuration of your servers and applications is a key factor in their performance, availability, and security. Many incidents can be tracked back to an authorized (and sometimes unauthorized) configuration change, whether to a system file, configuration file, or Windows® Registry entry. Join SolarWinds VP of product management Brandon Shopp to discover how the new SolarWinds® Server Configuration Monitor is designed to help you.

Overview

The following error occurs when attempting to download configs from HP ProCurve 3500 switches using NCM even when credentials used are correct:

Bad Password

Environment

  • NCM 7.3.2
  • Device: HP J4865A ProCurve Switch 4108G/3500 (1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.7.11.23)

Cause

This occurs when the device template is incorrect.

Resolution

  1. Depending on the version of NCM you are using, follow the relevant steps to add a template. For instructions, refer to the NCM Administrator Guide.
  2. Use the following lines as the actual content of the template:

<!--SolarWinds Network Management Tools-->

<!--Copyright 2007 SolarWinds.Net All rights reserved-->

<Configuration-Management Device="HP J4865A ProCurve Switch 4108GL" SystemOID=" 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.7.11.23">

        <Command Name="RESET" Value="terminal length 1000"/>

        <Command Name="EnterConfigMode" Value="configure"/>

        <Command Name="ExitConfigMode" Value="end"/>

        <Command Name="Running" Value="text-config-file"/>

        <Command Name="DownloadConfig" Value="Show Config"/>

        <Command Name="UploadConfig" Value="${EnterConfigMode}${CRLF}${ConfigText}${CRLF}${ExitConfigMode}"/>

        <Command Name="DownloadConfigIndirect" Value="copy config tftp text${CRLF}${StorageFilename}${CRLF}${StorageAddress}${CRLF}"/>

        <Command Name="Version" Value="show version"/>

        <Command Name="PreCommand" Value=" "/>

    </Commands>

</Configuration-Management>

You should now be able to download configs from the switches.
