Overview

After upgrading to NCM 7.2.1, the TFTP server cannot be started from NCM, but it still works from outside of NCM.

Environment

All NCM versions

Cause

The issue is caused by NCM using an old TFTP registry entry.

Resolution

Warning:

  • Consult your System Administrator before performing the following procedure.
  • Save a copy of the original file to your local drive as a backup file, in case you need to roll back later.

  1. Uninstall the TFTP Server. The installation location of the TFTP msi is C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Installers\SolarWindsTFTPServer.msi on Windows Server 2008 and 2012.

FYI: If it doesn't uninstall completely through the .msi file, try uninstalling with the steps below:

    - Open the command prompt
    - type cd C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Installers\
    - msiexec /x SolarWindsTFTPServer.msi

  2. Run regedit.exe to edit the registry.
  3. Click Find... on the Edit menu, and then search for TFTPServerEx.
  4. Delete all NCM TFTPServerEx entries. The NCM TFTPServer version is 9.x.x.x, and the folder is linked to the NCM installation folder.
  5. Reinstall the TFTP Server.

    - Open the command prompt
    - type cd C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Installers\
    - msiexec /i SolarWindsTFTPServer.msi

Other Resolution :

Do you have SolarWinds Engineer Toolset installed ?

Might be the Port / Service was already in use with the Engineer Toolset TFTP .

Try uninstall Engineer Toolset TFTP and then download

http://www.solarwinds.com/free-tools/free-tftp-server

You can also simply Uninstall SolarWinds Engineer Toolset and then install only TFTP server from above download link and check your issue is resolved.
