NCM jobs stop working or hang after upgrade to NCM 7.5

Updated August 1, 2016

Overview

NCM Jobs stop working or hang after upgrading to NCM 7.5.

Environment

  • NCM 7.5
  • NCM 7.4

Cause

This can occur because of one or more of the following reasons:

  • The install Directory is still the legacy: C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Configuration Management (generally reserved for installs where upgrades have been done since versions Prior to NCM 7.0 over a course of time)
  • Configuration Wizard was not run after installation/upgrade of NCM on Additional Pollers
  • The following files are missing after NCM is installed and configured on Additional Pollers

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SolarWinds\Collector\Plugins\NCM.SubJob.Creator.plugin

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SolarWinds\Collector\Plugins\NCM.SubJob.Transfer.plugin

Resolution

If the Install Directory is correct, C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM\ , and the collector Plugins above are missing:

  1. Uninstall Orion Improvement Program on Additional Poller using Add/Remove programs.
  2. Run and complete the Orion Configuration Wizard.

If the Install Path is still listed as C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Configuration Management or if the Folder even exists,  NCM will need to be uninstalled and reinstalled on the Primary Orion along with a few extra steps to make sure it is installed correctly , please contact support and reference this Knowledge Base Article.
