NCM backups run very slowly

Updated Sept 27, 2018

Users may find that their configuration backups start to run much slower than normal or sometimes time out.

  • NCM7.X and later

If there is a huge amount of data in the Windows temp folder this may cause issues with the overall system performance and this will affect the backup jobs considerably.

Apply this fix to all SolarWinds servers. This includes the Main Polling Engine, Additional Polling Engine, and Additional Web Server.

  1. Go to C:Windows\Temp in File Explorer
  2. Select all files and folders except the SolarWinds folder and use the Shift+Delete keys to delete the files.

Note: An issue with NCM creating a large number of temp files and leaving them in the Temp directory was fixed in NCM 7.7. If you are experiencing this issue, upgrade to the current version of NCM to resolve it.
