NCM Hash symbol in config

Updated September 27, 2017

Overview

Some configs include hash symbols, for example sometimes as part of the banner. These may cause unexpected results in NCM. The configuration download could be truncated, or you might see an error such as "Configuration too short. Discarding".

Environment

  • NCM7.6

Cause

NCM recognizes the # symbol as a config mode prompt and this may be seen as the end of a configuration download.

Resolution

Do any of the following:

  • Add the following into the device template:
    - <Command Name="UseExactPromptMatch" Value="true"/>
  • Download the config via TFTP or the SCP protocol if it is supported by the device.
  • Replace the ‘#’ character by ‘*’ in the interface description.
