Exception while configuring plugin SolarWinds NCM Integration Plugin component Orion Database Update. Bad Data

Overview

NCM 7.3.2 installation ends with the following error:

Exception while configuring plugin SolarWinds® NCM Integration Plugin component Orion Database Update. Bad Data.

Other modules are working and the following error appears when editing nodes:

There was an error retrieving data from SolarWinds Information Service"

 

Interesting error on the Configuration wizard logs:
ERROR SettingsDAL - Update NCM_NodeProperties Failed.
System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException: Bad Data.
ERROR ConfigurationProgressScene - Unable to update NCM database to FIPS compliant due to exception: System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException: Bad Data.
ERROR ConfigurationProgressScene - Exception while configuring plugin SolarWinds NCM Integration Plugin component Orion Database Update. System.Security.Cryptography.CryptographicException: Bad Data.

Environment

NCM 7.3.2

Cause 

 There is a broken certificate and the encrypted data needs to be reset.

Resolution

Note: The script provided will reset all encrypted NCM data such as usernames or passwords to your devices. Account credentials for accessing web console will not be reset.

  1. Run the following sql:
    UPDATE n

    UPDATE NCM_NCMSettings SET SettingValue='' 
    WHERE SettingName='SMTP Auth Username' 
      OR SettingName='RTN UserName' 
      OR SettingName='RTN UserLevelName' 
      OR SettingName='RTN UserLevelName' 
      OR SettingName='SCP User Name'
      OR SettingName='RTN Password' 
      OR SettingName='Global SMTP Auth Password' 
      OR SettingName='SMTP Auth Password' 
      OR SettingName='RTN UserLevelPassword' 
      OR SettingName='RTN UserLevelEnablePassword'

  2. Re-run the Configuration Wizard.
