Overview

This article provides brief information on the following website error when creating a report:

maximum request length exceeded.
Same limitation applies when you export it to excel file.

or

The maximum number of rows in an excel worksheet with the current format is: 65536

or when trying to select nodes in a NCM job you received the following error:

"Unexpected Website Error
Maximum request length exceeded."

Environment

NCM, all supported versions

NPM version 12 and later

Detail

The limitation on NCM and NPM reports has been decreased to 65535 rows with the NCM 7.4 and NPM 12.

This will be a Feature Request, since developers will need to implement a check on the version of excel used when exporting this to excel.

Resolution

Please try the following steps to increase the Request Length when selecting nodes in a NCM job:

1) Go to C:\inepub\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM folder.
2) Create a backup of Web.config .
3) Open the Web.config file, and add the following element in “<configuration>” section:

<location path="Resources/Jobs/ChooseNodes.aspx">
    <system.web>
      <httpRuntime maxRequestLength="8192"/>
    </system.web>
</location>
