Error: Configs cannot be downloaded via TFTP

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the following error:

Error: Cannot start SolarWinds TFTP Server ActiveX component can't create object.

Configs cannot be downloaded via TFTP.



NCM version 7.x



The issue is caused when there is an old installation of Engineers Toolset on the same server as NCM. Engineers Toolset uses a different version of TFTP Server.


  1. RDP to the main NCM server.
  2. Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features.
  3. Uninstall SolarWinds TFTP Server.
  4. Go to <install drive>\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds and delete the whole TFTP Server folder.
  5. Login to your customer portal.
  6. Go to License Management. For NCM, click Choose Download > Select the SolarWinds TFTP server from the Additional Components.
  7. Install it on the server.
  8. Download configs again.
