This article provides a resolution to the following errors that appears upgrade of Network Configuration Manager (NCM):

Error 1325 - TFTP-Root is not a valid short file name

Error 1325 - SFTP_Root is not a valid short file name

NCM 7.4 and earlier

NCM versions earlier than 7.4 is creating root folder for TFTP Server. If NCM was installed on D: drive, it would create a D:\TFTP-Root folder. If for any reason the drive letter has changed, the 7.4 installer will not be able to uninstall  the previous version of the product since the MSIEXEC will try to remove this folder and will fail with fatal error.

Do any of the following to resolve the issue:

Resolution 1:

  1. Change the drive letter back to the original one.
  2. Rerun the installer.

Resolution 2:

  1. Open Windows Registry Editor.
  2. Search for the value TFTP-Root or SFTP_Root depending on the error message that appears.
  3. Modify the drive letter to the correct (current) one.
  4. Rerun the installer.
