Config Comparisons only go back a limited time

This article provides information about NCM's feature to compare configurations for different points in time or from one config type to another.  However, you can only compare or go back to a certain number of days/weeks/months.


NCM version 6.1 and later


When configurations are downloaded from the devices, they are compared to other previous configs stored in the database, and the differences are stored in tables in the database to be presented in Charts on the web pages.


There is a job in NCM to keep the tables in check and not grow to a capacity which hampers NCM functionality


Depending on how individuals set NCM up varies on how large this table may grow.  Here are some contributing factors:

  • Number of devices being backed up
  • Frequency of download
  • Number of Config Types in NCM
  • Frequency of changes
  • How long the information is stored in the database


It is recommended not to store longer ones to see the information on the web page in graph form because short interval  or time lapse may not have any difference.


The default job for this in NCM is the Default Database and Archive Maintenance Job.  The option to clean this table up is in the Add Job Specifics section of the job.

The Purge Config Cache Data older than bullet is the portion of this job's responsibility.

You have to set this accordingly to your needs.

Note: Keeping large volume can hinder the efficiency of NCM Web Page loads.
