Installation/Upgrade Fails (Exe Cannot Launch)

Issue:

You launch the NCM installer and the local host blocks the application from starting.

Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) are the most common reason for this behavior. SolarWinds cannot programmatically test its software for operability with STIGS since there are too many implementations for different government needs.

Solution:

Assuming STIGS are implemented in your environment, follow this process to determine which one blocks NCM:

 

  1. Disable all STIGS on the host.
  2. One by one, enable the STIGS and with each one attempt to install/upgrade NCM.
    Cancel unimpeded installation/upgrade until you discover which STIGS interfer with it.
  3. Enable all STIGS except the one(s) the block NCM installation/upgrade.
  4. Following installation/upgrade and configuration, enable the remaining STIGS.
