While the application holds majority of the settings in the database, there are some local files kept on the server which need to be moved (copied) to a new server.
After installing the application and licensing the new server, do the following steps to migrate NCM to a new server environment:

Config Archive

***Note***

For backup purposes this is a critical folder.  This folder does not need to be migrated for NCM use.  This is the text backup of the configurations for nodes that have been backed up.  Recommendation this folder is backed up and kept on a resource for disaster recovery and not migrated to the new NCM server as this file can get quite large over time.

  1. Go to C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM
  2. Look for the Config-Archive folder and copy all of the files in the folder to a disaster recovery storage

Scripts

  1. Go to C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM
  2. Look for the Scripts folder and copy all of the files in the folder to the new server.
  3. Go to C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM.
  4. Paste the copied files into the Scripts folder.

Reports (NCM 7.4 and after these are read only)

NCM 7.3.2 and before

  1. Go to C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM
  2. Look for the Reports folder and copy all of the files in the folder to the new server(s) in the event of multiple pollers (NCM 7.2.2 - NCM 7.3.2)
  3. Go to C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM.
  4. Paste the copied files into the Reports folder on each Orion Poller

Device Command Templates (NCM 7.4 these are stored in the Database and will not need to be migrated)

  1. Go to C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM
  2. Look for the DeviceTypes folder and copy all of the files in the folder to the new server(s) in the event of multiple pollers (NCM 7.2.2 - NCM 7.3.2)
  3. Go to C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM.
  4. Paste the copied files into the DeviceTypes folder on each poller

Jobs (NCM 7.1.1 and prior versions)

  1. Go to C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM
  2. Look for the Jobs folder and copy all of the files in the folder to the new server.
  3. Go to C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM.
  4. Paste the copied files into the Jobs folder.
  5. Do the following steps to copy the Scheduled Tasks:
       a. Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Windows Explorer.
       b. Browse to My Computer > Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks.
       c. Select all the Orion NCM jobs, then click Edit > Copy.
       d. Paste the scheduled job files into the Scheduled Tasks folder on the new server.

Notes:

  1. On the 64-bit version of Windows, the default installation location is C:\Program Files (x86)\SolarWinds\Orion\NCM.
  2. The common Orion Platform aspects of the server migration can be found in the Orion Server Migration document.
  3. Procedures/Steps described above (Jobs, p.3) ONLY applies to Windows Server 2003.
