Emails for NCM jobs and Real-Time Change Detection when additional Orion pollers are deployed

Overview

This will discuss a common issue with not receiving email notifications for NCM jobs and Real-Time Change Detection.

Environment

  • NCM 7.1 when the option to use Orion Additional Pollers is selected
  • NCM 7.2 to 7.4.1 for all jobs with email notifications set up
  • NCM 7.5 jobs dealing with downloading, uploading, issuing a command will only use the primary Orion server to send the email. NCM inventory, Real-Time Change Detection, Clean up jobs or any job simply pulling data from the database as of NCM 7.5, if opted for an email to be sent, will still have an email per poller.

Detail

From NCM 7.1, when the option to use Orion Additional pollers until NCM 7.4.1, all jobs ran on each Orion poller.  

The job itself is what sends the email, So each poller will need to be allowed to connect to the email sever.

The general reason for failure to retrieve the email for these jobs is that the connection to the email server is not allowed and needs to be set up / allowed to connect from all pollers.
