Create a device command template

Overview

NCM does not have default templates for some types of devices. This article describes how to create a device command template if it does not exists.

 

Note:

  • In NCM 7.4 device templates are stored in the database
  • In NCM 7.4 device templates are created and modified from the Orion Web Console.

Environment

  • ​NCM 7.4 and later

Steps

Requirements:

  • Device vendor
  • Machine type
  • System OID (sysObjectID / 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.2.0)

 

 

The following steps describe how to create a template to download the running config from an F5 LTM device using the system OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.3375.2.1 as an example.

Note: This instruction is not applicable to .UCS files.

 

  1. Open the Orion Webconsole
  2. Go to Settings > NCM Settings > Device Templates.

  3. Click Add New and choose Using XML Editor.
    Note: This is to issue the command to download a config via Telnet or SSH.

  4. You will get a template with all the command names.
  5. Provide the values you need and there is no need to remove any lines.

  6. Click Save
  7. You will now see the template in the list.
